Don’t Let Chemotherapy Nausea Get the Best of You
Defined Tag: Chemotherapy Nausea. Unfortunately those patients that have the need for chemotherapy treatments have learned that many of the drugs that are used to keep cancers away can cause chemotherapy nausea. When faced with this as a possible outcome of their treatment there are some things that can be done to make it a little easier to deal with. To begin with ask your health care provider for details on the drugs that will be used on you during your chemotherapy sessions. Then look them up and learn what you can on how to deal with them. Find out if the nausea will come during the treatment or will it happen after. Ask your physician if the nausea is likely to last a long time or lead to vomiting and what the duration or discomfort is likely to be. There are some things that you can do to help to reduce the chemotherapy nausea. Eating habits are one of the things you need to regulate during your treatments. First, drink lots of fluids during the day, especially if your nausea has lead to vomiting. But, do not drink during meals; this will not make you feel better. Stay away from spicy, greasy or fatty foods, especially the night before a treatment. Eat smaller meals and stick to plain things like toast, cereals without milk or crackers. These are easier on your system. A good tip for eating during chemotherapy is to stay away from your favorite foods. If you eat them and they make you nauseous or worse make you throw up, you will forever connect eating them with feeling sick and that will be the end of your love affair with your favorite foods. Other tips for keeping down your chemotherapy nausea include keeping away for strong odors especially cooking odors. Do not lie down for at least two hours after you eat. Sitting up will assist with digestion. Clothing that is not too tight, fresh air or even a little light exercise after a meal will all go a long way to help to ease that after eating nausea that so many people who are in the midst of chemotherapy may suffer from. If the nausea gets the better of you do not be afraid to ask your health care provider for some anti-nausea medications to help ease your discomfort.
