It’s Okay to Get Help During Chemotherapy Treatments

Cancer can be a scary word for those who are diagnosed with some form of the illness. But it is not just scary to you; your family must deal with your illness as well. This is true when you are having your chemotherapy treatments as well. You need not stay away from friends and family during this time. As a matter of fact having the support of those who care about you will help in your fight and recovery from the disease. It is not something you can hide from those close to you and you should not try. Some of the side effects of your treatments, hair loss, tiredness and nausea will be obvious to those close to you, so let them help instead of pushing them away.

You may need extra help around the house. This is especially true if you have a family, husband and children, to care for. Ask for a little extra help and you will not be disappointed. Cooking is a big problem since chemotherapy treatments will likely affect your appetite. That and being more tired after a treatment may mean asking your spouse to do some of the cooking. Try to have a nap when it is quiet during the day. This may be when your children are at school, visiting friends or younger ones are napping. You need to keep your strength up.

Do not be afraid to talk to those you are close to about how things are progressing. This will be good for you and them. Tell them about the chemotherapy treatments and how they make you feel. Tell them what your health care provider tells you and how things are developing as the treatment progresses. Your inner circle will be there for you to assuage your fears, wipe your tears and join you in the victory when the treatments have finally come to an end.
